HIRING: Capital Water Infrastructure Coordinator
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) invites applications for one Capital Water Infrastructure Coordinator position, reporting to SVCA’s Administrative Office.
Summary of Functions
Reporting to the Manager of Water Resources, the Capital Water Infrastructure Coordinator will be responsible for the administration and coordination of SVCA’s capital water infrastructure program, which includes flood control dykes, dams, slope stability projects, and erosion control projects. This position is responsible for project coordination (i.e. issuance of RFPs, RFQs, tender preparation, budgeting, and scheduling), asset management, and
stakeholder communications.
The Capital Water Infrastructure Coordinator will also engage in fieldwork to complete infrastructure inspections, assess conditions, and provide maintenance recommendations.
Qualifications
- Environmental science, hydrology, water resources, civil/environmental engineering post-secondary education will be considered an asset
- A minimum of three (3) years’ working experience in the above areas with focus on infrastructure project management and coordination is required
- Possess a sound knowledge of project coordination principles and techniques, as well as knowledge of procurement, products, equipment, and construction methodologies
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, guidelines, and permitting requirements related to water control infrastructure
- Able to proficiently read and interpret engineering reports and drawings is considered an asset
- Possession of exemplary problem-solving techniques, data analysis, critical interpretation of information, and ability to react accordingly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Must have valid class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s license
- Must be comfortable working outdoors, around watercourses
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare cost estimates, progress reports, and final expense reports for ongoing capital infrastructure projects
- Ensure compliance with approved contract documents, budgets, and schedules
- Review infrastructure condition assessments and prepare/maintain budget forecasts to assist with scheduling of maintenance and capital projects
- Prepare documents including, but not limited to: request for proposals, request for quotations, tender documents, and technical specifications.
- Review consultant and contractor work, including reports and drawings, to ensure compliance with appropriate standards, permits and SVCA policies.
- •Assist with the management of SVCA’s easements, including communication with affected landowners and issuance of permissions
- Assist with the inspection of SVCA’s water and erosion control infrastructure
- Liaise internally with Manager of Water Resources and field operations staff regarding capital projects, budget allotments, scheduling, etc.
- Coordinate with external agencies, including municipalities and ministries, to present condition assessments and communicate the status of capital projects
- Assist with improvements to data collection and document management as it relates to SVCA’s water capital infrastructure
- Assist field operations staff as needed, with routine maintenance activities including tree trimming, dam maintenance, sign installation/removal, etc.
- Work safely in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all SVCA Health and Safety policies
- Other duties as assigned appropriate to the responsibilities of the position
Work Environment and Conditions
This position is comprised of a 40/60 split between fieldwork and office work; the successful candidate must be prepared to work in an office environment as well as outdoors, around water. All successful applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, in uneven terrain. Some heavy lifting may be required.
Travel is normally within the Saugeen watershed, however, additional meetings outside of the watershed may be required.
Training
SVCA offers comprehensive health and safety training including on-the-job training, WHIMIS, First Aid, and Health and Safety Training.

Wage and Benefits
• Salary: $73,350 to $86,908 per annum
