SVCA’s Wolf Moon Candlelit Night Hike Draws 300 Visitors to Sulphur Spring Conservation Area

SAUGEEN WATERSHED, ONTARIO (Bruce, Grey, Huron, Dufferin and Wellington Counties) –

Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) welcomed approximately 300 community members to a Candlelit Night Hike under the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Sulphur Spring Conservation Area.

Participants experienced the quiet beauty of winter at night while walking softly lit trails guided by candlelight. By leaving headlamps at home, visitors were able to take in the sights, sounds, and stillness of the conservation area under moonlight, creating a calm and memorable winter experience.

SVCA extends sincere thanks to staff who volunteered their time, along with staff family members who helped support the event. Their involvement was key to ensuring the evening was safe and welcoming.

Following the success of the Wolf Moon hike, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority is pleased to announce another upcoming candlelit night hike:

Snow Moon Night Hike

  • Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026
  • Location: Sulphur Spring Conservation Area
  • Address: 261123 Grey Rd 28, Hanover, ON N4N 3B8
  • First hike departs: 7:00 pm
  • Final group departs: 7:30 pm

Hike groups will depart in a staggered format along the trails. Participants are welcome to walk at their own pace. The loop is approximately 1 to 1.5 km and typically takes between 30 and 90 minutes to complete, depending on pace and whether participants choose to pause and enjoy the quiet of the winter night.

There is no fee to attend. Snowshoes are welcome but not required. Families with very young children are encouraged to bring a toboggan, as trails are not packed firm. Please note that dogs are not permitted at this event, with no exceptions, even though dogs on leashes are very much welcome on SVCA conservation lands during regular open hours.

SVCA is pleased to share its conservation areas with the public and to offer opportunities to experience these spaces in new and meaningful ways. This is an SVCA-hosted event, and all are welcome to attend.

The event is weather permitting. Any cancellation due to weather will be posted on www.saugeenconservation.ca
