FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 17th, 2025

Saugeen Conservation Notification of Regulated Area Mapping Changes in Huron-Kinloss

TOWNSHIP OF HURON-KINLOSS –

Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) held a Public Information Meeting on October 3rd, 2025 to present proposed updates to Regulated Area mapping for portions of the Township of Huron-Kinloss.
The meeting, held in accordance with Ontario Regulation 41/24, invited residents, cottagers, and stakeholders to review draft maps, ask questions, and learn how the proposed updates may affect their properties. Approximately 100 people attended.

SVCA acknowledges the extended timeline in reaching this stage of public engagement and thanks the community for its patience. The delay has been primarily due to sequencing requirements and provincial timelines established for conservation authorities completing mapping updates under O. Reg. 41/24.

The updated maps incorporate new flood hazard information supported by high-resolution LiDAR topographic data. This transition from broader Screening Area mapping to more detailed Regulated Area mapping provides a more accurate picture of where SVCA review and permitting apply prior to development. In many cases, the refined Regulated Area boundaries are smaller and better reflect actual site conditions.

“Our goal is to make it easier for people to understand what the mapping means and how it’s used. These updates give property owners and municipalities better information to make decisions with confidence, and that ultimately supports safer, more sustainable development.”- Matt Armstrong, Manager of Environmental Planning and Regulations, SVCA

During the meeting, SVCA staff outlined the key differences between the previous and updated mapping, presented the draft maps, and answered individual questions from attendees. Staff also assisted landowners in understanding how the changes may apply to their specific properties.

The draft mapping changes in the Township of Huron-Kinloss are now available on SVCA’s website and will remain open for viewing for 30 days before being brought forward to the SVCA Board of Directors for consideration at the November Authority meeting. After November 20th, 2025, the mapping will be integrated into SVCA’s Regulatory Mapping.
