Tree Marking

Tree marking involves the careful selection of trees for harvest using a silvicultural prescription, which is a site specific plan that takes into account forest inventory and conditions.

Each decision to leave or remove a tree will directly influence the long-term ecological integrity of the forest and is based on growth potential, health, and wildlife benefits.

Each tree is marked to show potential product and for the ability of the woodlot manager to audit the logging contractor.

Tree marking is based on sound science and research, and has proven itself another useful tool for climate change adaptation and sustainable forest management.

Forestry staff are trained and considered provincially certified tree markers.
