SVCA’s role during a flooding event is to monitor current watershed conditions and weather forecasts, predict river conditions, and communicate our findings to the public, municipalities, and media.

SVCA uses different levels of messaging based on watershed and/or shoreline conditions, weather forecasts, and the severity of flood risk.
No flood conditions exist.

Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety
High flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets, etc. Flooding is not expected.

Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook
Early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high winds or other conditions. These factors may cause significant runoff, ice jams, flooding or erosion.

Flooding is possible in specific watercourses. Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare for possible flooding.

Flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses. Municipalities and individuals should take action to deal with flood conditions, including possible road closures and evacuations.
