April 13, 2026 - Flood Outlook Statement
Watershed Condition Statement - Flood Outlook
Saugeen Conservation issues Flood Outlook due to significant rainfall expected throughout the week.
Issued: Monday, April 13th, 2026
Valid until: Friday, April 17th, 2026
ALL SAUGEEN WATERSHED MUNICIPALITIES – Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, Municipality of Brockton, Township of Chatsworth, Municipality of Grey Highlands, Town of Hanover, Township of Howick, Municipality of Morris-Turnberry, Municipality of South Bruce, Township of Huron-Kinloss, Municipality of Kincardine, Town of Minto, Township of Wellington-North, Town of Saugeen Shores, Township of Southgate, Municipality of West Grey.
Yesterday, April 12th, the watershed received between 10 to 60 mm of rain. The highest amounts occurred along the Lake Huron shoreline and in northern areas of the watershed. A Rainfall Warning from Environment Canada indicates additional rainfall amounts between 10 to 20 mm this morning.
After a break in precipitation later today, another round of heavy rain may begin Tuesday morning. Forecasts indicate that thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday, with stronger storms more likely in the afternoon and evening. Rainfall amounts up to 35 mm are expected, with higher amounts possible for areas that receive multiple rounds of thunderstorms. Extended forecasts indicate rain through Thursday.
Streams and rivers remain high following last week’s rain and the additional rain received this past weekend. Ground is saturated throughout the watershed and will have limited ability to absorb the additional rainfall, resulting in considerable surface runoff into local watercourses.
While significant flooding is not expected, the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of the watershed exists. Small watercourses may overtop their banks. Pooling of water in agricultural fields and other areas with poor drainage is expected.
Municipal staff are advised to monitor drainage systems and related infrastructure. Residents are advised to exercise caution near all watercourses as stream banks may be slippery and unstable, and the water is very cold and fast-moving.
Saugeen Conservation staff will be closely monitoring watershed conditions and will provide an update if conditions change. This message will remain in effect until Friday, April 17th at 12:00 pm, unless updated otherwise.
