April 2, 2026 - Flood Watch Statement

Saugeen Conservation upgrades Water Safety Statement to a Flood Watch due to the heavy rainfall received earlier this week and additional rain in the forecast.

Issued: Thursday, April 2nd, 2026
Valid until: Tuesday, April 7th, 2026

ALL SAUGEEN WATERSHED MUNICIPALITIES – Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, Municipality of Brockton, Township of Chatsworth, Municipality of Grey Highlands, Town of Hanover, Township of Howick, Municipality of Morris-Turnberry, Municipality of South Bruce, Township of Huron-Kinloss, Municipality of Kincardine, Town of Minto, Township of Wellington-North, Town of Saugeen Shores, Township of Southgate, Municipality of West Grey.

On Tuesday, March 31st, thunderstorms brought 20 to 75 mm of rain to the watershed. As a result, water levels have increased substantially in local rivers and streams. While small watercourses started to decline yesterday, April 1st, larger rivers remain high.

Forecasts indicate an additional 30 to 40 mm of rain is possible, with precipitation expected today, April 2, and continuing into Saturday, April 4. With the ground already saturated, this rainfall will lead to increased runoff and a rapid rise in local rivers and streams. While widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time, localized flooding in low-lying areas and near watercourses is possible over the coming days. Pooling of water in agricultural fields, low-lying areas, and areas with poor drainage is expected. More extensive flooding is possible should the watershed receive more rain than what is currently forecast.

Municipal staff are advised to monitor drainage systems and low-lying infrastructure. Residents are reminded to exercise caution near all watercourses as stream banks may be slippery and unstable, and the water is very cold and fast-moving.

Saugeen Conservation staff will be closely monitoring watershed conditions and will provide an update if conditions change. This message will remain in effect until Tuesday, April 7th at 12:00 pm, unless updated otherwise.
